Meet the Team

Tuyet Mai
Tuyet Mai was lucky to have spent her entire 14 year formative education at Regina Mundi where she started in Jardin d’Enfants at 4 year old and finished with the Baccalaureat in 1974. As such, she has assimilated the excellent academic teachings by the nuns of the Congregation Notre Dame de St Augustin, who have also inculcated in her a call for service to others. From a tender age, she was also blessed to have been allowed to follow her father and uncle as they devoted a decade of volunteer time to the Vietnamese National Red Cross, witnessing and participating in their activities through various refugee camps and orphanages of war-torn Vietnam.
After graduating from Stanford University with a BS in Biology in 1977, Tuyet Mai completed her medical studies at Harvard Medical School in 1981. Following a residency in Internal Medicine in Boston, she went on to a residency in Ophthalmology at UCLA and a Fellowship in Corneal Surgery & Transplantation at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. She returned to Southern CA in 1990 and has since devoted her time to vision care, while raising two daughters with her classmate and husband, Dr Khiem Nguyen-Phuc. Over the years, she has participated in several fundraising events, spearheaded by the senior alumni of our school, to support the social activities of the Congregation in Vietnam.
Now that she starts to think about retirement within the next few years, Tuyet Mai continues to admire the dedication of our fellow CND alumni in their quest for service: in joining the noble cause that JISF has laid out, she would like to help in what capacity she can, to improve the education of underserved children and the life of at-risk women through vocational training, through the schools run by the nuns of the Congregation in Vietnam.
